About This Course
Valley of the Eagles Golf Links is a nine-hole links course on the banks of the Chilkat River in Haines, in northern Southeast Alaska. The course sits at mile 1.5 on the Haines Highway and plays 2,900 yards at par 36.
The entire course is built on land classified as wetlands by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Getting the permits to build took seven and a half years before construction could begin. The resulting layout runs through open river-bottom terrain with views of the Cathedral Peaks, the Chilkat Mountains, and the Lynn Canal.
Wildlife is constant — spawning salmon in the Chilkat River, bald eagles congregating in the valley (the nearby Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve hosts the largest fall gathering of eagles in the world), moose, waterfowl, mink, otters, and wolves. Summer daylight in Haines stretches playing hours from 3 AM to 10 PM. A driving range is on site. The course is accessible from Skagway via the Haines-Skagway Fast Ferry, within walking distance of the cruise terminal.
