Connecticut Golf Courses
Connecticut fits over 150 golf courses into one of the smallest states in the country, giving it one of the highest course densities in the Northeast. Fairfield County in the southwest has a heavy concentration of private clubs with long histories, and towns like Greenwich, Darien, Stamford, and Ridgefield account for a significant share of the state’s Luxury and Elite-level courses. Public options exist here too, including the Griffith E. Harris course in Greenwich.
The Hartford area offers a solid mix of municipal and daily-fee courses on gentle terrain, with Avon, Bloomfield, and West Hartford providing accessible rounds. Wallingford, Hamden, and Waterbury add public courses in the south-central part of the state. The Long Island Sound shoreline from Norwalk east through Fairfield has layouts with water views and coastal breezes. Up in the Litchfield Hills, courses gain more elevation and forested backdrops, and the Connecticut River valley through Portland and Ellington keeps things affordable.
The season runs early April through late November. Fall is the standout: September and October bring crisp air and peak foliage that makes New England golf worth the trip. Summers are warm but rarely extreme, with July highs typically in the low 80s. Green fees at municipal courses generally stay under $50, while private clubs dominate the high end. The state has a healthy number of 9-hole courses alongside its 18-hole layouts, and the compact geography means most courses in the state are reachable within an hour’s drive of Hartford.
