Florida Golf Courses
Florida has more golf courses than any other state, with over 1,000 layouts playable year-round. The Naples and Fort Myers corridor in the southwest has one of the highest concentrations of courses per capita in the country, with Naples alone listing over 60 courses, mostly at Elite and Luxury pricing inside private communities. Bonita Springs, Estero, and Cape Coral add more public access in the region. Sarasota, Bradenton, and Venice form another dense cluster along the Gulf Coast.
Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast run close behind on the east side. West Palm Beach, Jupiter, Boca Raton, and Delray Beach offer everything from affordable public tracks to exclusive private clubs. Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Plantation fill out the southeast. Orlando’s resort courses in Kissimmee, Davenport, and Lake Buena Vista serve the tourism market, while Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach, and Saint Augustine anchor the First Coast. Tampa, Clearwater, and the surrounding Hillsborough County area have a strong public course mix. The Villages in central Florida has become a major golf market with its large retirement population.
The Panhandle in the northwest has more varied terrain and slightly cooler winters, with courses in Destin, Panama City Beach, Pensacola, and Niceville drawing golfers from the Gulf South. Central Florida’s interior through Lakeland, Sebring, and Ocala offers rolling terrain and lower prices than the coasts. Peak season runs November through April, when snowbirds fill tee sheets. Summer green fees drop sharply, often by 40 to 60 percent, but afternoon thunderstorms and humidity push most play to early morning. The majority of courses are 18-hole layouts, and the state has one of the highest ratios of private to public courses in the country.
