Indiana Golf Courses
Indiana has 523 golf courses, with roughly 320 offering 18 holes and about 120 running nine holes. The Indianapolis metro holds the highest density, and city pages for Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, and Zionsville reflect how far the course network extends into the northern suburbs. Within Indianapolis proper, municipal courses and daily-fee options keep play affordable, while the surrounding Hamilton County corridor has drawn more Premium and Luxury-tier private clubs.
The terrain shifts meaningfully across the state. Northern Indiana around South Bend, Fort Wayne, and the lake country near Angola and Warsaw is flat to gently rolling, with sandy soil near Lake Michigan giving courses in the La Porte and Valparaiso area a different feel. Central Indiana is farmland with creek-bottom routing. Southern Indiana is where the topography gets interesting, with the hilly, forested terrain around Bloomington, Columbus, and the Ohio River corridor producing more dramatic elevation changes. French Lick in Orange County is the primary destination-golf draw in the southern half.
The season runs April through October in most years, with Evansville and the southwestern corner sometimes stretching into early November. Green fees statewide tend to run below national averages, particularly at the many nine-hole community courses scattered through smaller towns. Courses with driving ranges are common across the state, and the mix of public, semi-private, and private options gives every pricing tier solid representation.
