About This Course

The Causeway Club began in 1920 when seven stockholders of the Country Club of Southwest Harbor purchased 31 acres on Norwood Cove from the heirs of William Gilley, the earliest permanent settler in the area. The site had once held a tide mill on the causeway that gave the club its eventual name. Alonzo Yates designed the nine-hole course, and all holes were completed by 1923. The organization formally became the Causeway Club in 1936.

The course plays 2,312 yards at par 32 on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, with Acadia National Park, Flying Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Acadia Mountain forming a dramatic backdrop. No driving range is available. This is a private, seasonal club with a short but distinctive layout that draws its character from the cove-side setting and the surrounding peaks of Acadia.
