About This Course
Piscataquis Country Club traces its origins to May 1926, when local golf enthusiasts James H. Hudson and A.S. Eldridge identified the 165-acre Wharff farm north of the Guilford-to-Dover-Foxcroft road as an ideal spot for a course. Hudson raised the purchase money from Guilford businessmen in less than an hour, and the nine holes were completed for play by July 26 of that same year. The original farm buildings were converted into a pro shop and clubhouse. Donald Lichy of Philadelphia served as the first golf professional.
Originally incorporated as Piscataquis Valley Country Club, the organization reformed under its current name in the early 1940s. Fire destroyed the clubhouse in 1970, and a new facility was built shortly afterward. The course plays 2,909 yards at par 36. In 2024, new leadership stepped in to keep the club operating after concerns about a potential closure, reflecting the ongoing effort to sustain rural golf in Maine’s interior.
