About This Course
Schifferdecker Golf Course is one of the oldest municipal courses in Missouri, opening in June 1922 in Schifferdecker Park. The original nine holes were laid out by Dewey Longworth, the 24-year-old Oak Hill golf pro, and a second nine was added two years later. The park itself was donated to the city by Charles Schifferdecker, a prominent Joplin businessman who died in 1915 and stipulated that the land remain a public park bearing his name. The course was funded by donations from 144 Joplin citizens and businesses.
The par-71 layout plays 6,123 yards and remains a budget-friendly public option in Joplin. A Colonial-style clubhouse replaced the original in the late 1920s. Schifferdecker has been a civic institution for over a century, serving as both a neighborhood course and a local landmark in southwest Missouri.
