About This Course
Anaconda Country Club holds the distinction of being Montana’s oldest golf course, with construction beginning in 1915 under a design by Gregor MacMillan. The Anaconda Mining Company built the course for its copper smelter employees, and it opened as an 18-hole sand-green facility in 1917. The club hosted its first state tournament in 1922 and remained a company-owned amenity for decades.
Grass greens replaced the original sand in 1954, and the layout was reduced to the current 9 holes playing 3,020 yards at par 35. When the Anaconda Company closed its smelter in 1981, ownership transferred to the membership the following year. The club went semi-private in 1991, opening daily-fee play to non-members throughout Deer Lodge County.
