Wild Horse Plains Golf Course

Wild Horse Plains Golf Course is a 9-hole public course in Plains, Montana, named for the valley where Native Americans historically wintered their horses on the rich grasses along the Clark Fork River. The par-36 layout measures 3,031 yards with wide bluegrass fairways and bent grass greens. The course features generous landing areas and several bunkers but no water hazards, making it one of the more forgiving layouts in western Montana.

The setting in the Clark Fork valley provides mountain views in every direction, with the Coeur d’Alene Mountains to the west and the Flathead Range to the east. Large, undulating greens reward precise approach shots despite the course’s relatively short yardage. A driving range supports practice. Wild Horse Plains operates at economy-level green fees and draws golfers from the surrounding Sanders County communities as well as travelers on Highway 200. The course remains a community-run facility maintained by local volunteers.
