Nevada Golf Courses
Nevada has 115 golf courses, with 76 eighteen-hole layouts and 18 nine-hole courses making up the count. The state operates as two separate golf markets. Las Vegas dominates the south, where the majority of courses sit. Henderson, North Las Vegas, and the Summerlin area of western Las Vegas concentrate the public daily-fee options, while private gated communities like those in Henderson and along the southern edge of the valley maintain Elite-tier clubs. Mesquite, about 80 miles northeast of the city, adds a smaller desert golf cluster popular with regional visitors.
The Reno-Tahoe region in the northwest plays a different game entirely. Courses in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City sit at 4,000 to 5,000 feet elevation on high desert terrain, while the Lake Tahoe basin rises above 6,000 feet with pine-forested fairways. Truckee, just across the California line, extends this mountain golf corridor. The elevation means cooler summers, shorter seasons, and a ball that flies noticeably farther in the thin air. Reno-area courses operate roughly May through October, while Tahoe courses may not open until June.
Las Vegas allows year-round play, but the season inverts compared to most states. Summer highs regularly exceed 110 degrees, pushing golfers to dawn tee times or keeping them off the course entirely. The peak season runs October through April, when temperatures settle into the 60s and 70s and green fees climb accordingly. Winter weekend rates at popular Las Vegas courses can run double what the same round costs in July. Reno-Tahoe pricing stays more stable but peaks during summer, when the mountain climate is most appealing.
