Ohio Golf Courses
Ohio has 705 golf courses, placing it among the top five states nationally. About 500 are 18-hole layouts, with nearly 175 nine-hole courses filling in smaller communities and suburban pockets. Columbus and its suburbs, including Dublin, Westerville, and New Albany, hold a strong concentration of both public and private clubs. Akron and Canton anchor the northeast with a deep roster that includes everything from affordable municipal courses to well-known private clubs. Cincinnati’s hilly Ohio River valley terrain produces courses with real elevation change and tight, tree-lined corridors.
Cleveland and the broader northeast corridor have the densest mix of courses in the state, extending through Medina, Hudson, and Chardon. Toledo, Dayton, Springfield, and Lima fill out the western half with dependable daily-fee golf at lower prices. The Youngstown-Warren area near the Pennsylvania border supports a cluster of courses at Economy and Standard pricing. Southeast Ohio around Zanesville, Chillicothe, and Athens sees fewer courses but more dramatic terrain through the Appalachian foothills.
The season runs April through October, with fall offering the best conditions: firm bentgrass greens, cool air, and colorful hardwood canopies. Spring can be soggy, especially on flatter terrain in the western and northern parts of the state, while summer humidity is manageable but noticeable. Pricing is one of the state’s strengths. A large share of public courses fall in the Standard and Economy tiers, and even metro-area daily-fee courses rarely push into Premium territory. Ohio consistently offers strong value for the quality of turf and course conditioning on display.
