About This Course
Kinzua Hills Golf Club is Oregon’s only 6-hole golf course and the only USGA-rated 6-hole layout west of the Mississippi. The course originated in 1930 on a log-sorting yard, with a former mill pond still in play on the second hole. Local golfers leased the property in 1951, converting sand greens to grass by 1954. When the timber company sold in 2000, a group of area players purchased the course and operate it today as a non-profit, member-owned club.
Located 11 miles east of Fossil – the last mile on a dirt road – the course sits about 100 miles northeast of Bend in remote Wheeler County. Three separate tee boxes on each hole allow players to route a full 18, with a par of 65 for three loops. The layout is rolling and wide open, though holes four and five cross each other, adding an unusual element to the design. It is a true outpost of the game in one of Oregon’s least-populated corners.
