Little Moreau Country Club

Little Moreau Country Club sits in a natural prairie setting near the Little Moreau River, about six miles southwest of Timber Lake in Dewey County. The nine holes play 2,158 yards to a par of 35, and the course still uses sand greens, preserving a style of golf that has mostly vanished across the country. Green fees are paid on the honor system at a box near the first tee, reflecting the trust-based culture of this small ranching community.

To reach the course, drive three miles south of Timber Lake on Airport Road, turn right at the Y, continue two miles west, then head south for half a mile. A driving range is available, and the clubhouse provides basic amenities along with cart storage. Women’s league plays on Tuesday evenings and men’s league on Thursdays during summer. This is about as stripped-down and authentic as golf gets in South Dakota.
