Wild Oak Golf Course

Wild Oak Golf Course traces its origins to the 1920s, though exact records of the founding date have been lost. By 1936, crews came in to build proper greens, and a team of mules helped shape what became the course layout still in play today. The 18-hole course plays 6,902 yards at par 72 on the east side of Mitchell, near the James River and Firesteel Creek. Mature oak trees give the course its name and define the character of the fairways.

The course is managed through GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness and charges standard green fees. A driving range is available for practice. At nearly 6,900 yards from the tips, Wild Oak is a legitimate test of length, while the tree-lined corridors and river-adjacent terrain add shot-making demands. Mitchell is home to the famous Corn Palace, and Wild Oak is the city’s primary golf facility, drawing players from the surrounding James River Valley communities.
