About This Course
Mount Vernon Country Club opened on June 3, 1961, on land that was part of one of George Washington’s original five farms near his Mount Vernon estate. Russell Roberts designed the initial nine holes, and Sam Snead played an exhibition match a week after opening day. The course later expanded to 18 holes with work from Ed Ault and Bill Love, who made significant improvements in 2016. Dogue Creek, a tidal tributary of the Potomac River, creates water hazards on 14 of the 18 holes.
The par-70 course plays 6,281 yards through original forest from Washington’s plantation era. The private club also offers a competition-size swimming pool, dining, and year-round social events. A driving range supports the golf operation. Mount Vernon CC’s location on Old Mill Road places it minutes from George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, one of Virginia’s most visited historic sites.
