Vermont Golf Courses
Vermont has 105 golf courses built into the Green Mountains and the valleys between them. Most are walkable, family-owned layouts that follow the natural terrain, and nine-hole courses make up a sizable portion of the total. The ski resort towns convert to golf destinations in summer: Killington, Sugarbush in Warren, Jay Peak near the Canadian border, Stratton Mountain, and Mount Snow all operate 18-hole courses at elevation. These resort layouts command elite-tier pricing but play through some of the most scenic mountain terrain in the Northeast.
Away from the resorts, dozens of community country clubs and municipal tracks keep the game accessible. The Champlain Valley near Burlington, Williston, and Shelburne offers the flattest ground and the longest growing season in the state. Along the eastern border, the Connecticut River valley from Brattleboro north to Bradford provides gentle terrain and warmer microclimates. Manchester in the southern Green Mountains supports both the Equinox Golf Resort and nearby courses in the Battenkill valley, making it a reliable golf weekend anchor.
Fall golf is a major draw. Late September and early October bring peak foliage to the maples and oaks lining most fairways, and course conditions are typically at their best after the summer heat fades. The season runs from early May through mid-October, with summer highs in the 70s and low 80s. Spring openings depend on snowmelt, and mountain courses above 2,000 feet may not fully open until late May. Green fees at non-resort courses generally fall in the economy to standard range, making casual rounds affordable even during peak foliage season.
