Wyoming Golf Courses
Wyoming has 57 golf courses across a state roughly the size of the United Kingdom, making it one of the most sparsely supplied golf states in the country. Courses are separated by long stretches of open range, and many towns support just a single layout. Nine-hole community courses like those in Lusk, Sundance, and Thermopolis are the norm in the rural areas, often charging $20 to $30 for a round.
Jackson Hole is the exception to every pricing rule. The valley supports several courses at the base of the Teton Range, with Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club, Teton Pines, Shooting Star, and The Club at 3 Creek all operating at or near elite-tier fees. Teton views from the fairways and the proximity to Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks drive demand. Casper in central Wyoming offers three courses along the North Platte River at standard to premium pricing, including the 27-hole Casper Municipal, and Cheyenne in the southeast has both a private country club and public options. Sheridan, Cody, and the Bighorn Basin towns play at elevations above 4,000 feet on firm, fast ground.
The season is short. Most courses open in late May and close by mid-October, with higher-elevation layouts like those in Jackson operating on an even tighter window. June through September is the prime period, with dry air, low humidity, and afternoon highs in the 70s to low 80s at most locations. Altitude adds real carry distance to every shot, and wind is a persistent factor across the plains and basins. Green fees outside Jackson rank among the lowest in the West, making a round in places like Lander, Riverton, or Douglas a genuine bargain.
